SESSION 1 ON 3/6/2023
Session 1 Shared Handouts and Slides
Session 1 Summary
At our first session on March 6, we:
- introduced and shared background information on the group (the why, benefits)
- provided an overview of the divide problem
- introduced the foundational principles for civil discourse
- conducted small group discussion breakouts per the principles focused on our influencers, experiences, beliefs, and values important to Information Policy
- shared the breakout experiences in the full group
- introduced the agenda for Session 2, scheduled for March 20
- highlighted suggested preparation for session 2

Session 2 Summary
At our second session on March 20, we:
- provided a brief review of Session 1 and the Building Bridges Session Roadmap
- introduced the Caucus engagements
- broke into two Caucuses – (1) Liberal and (2) Moderate/Conservative (90 minutes)
- each Caucus shared and discussed their Values/Beliefs/Experiences/Influencers, desired Vision/Outcomes, and possible Actions/Paths to get there
- each Caucus mobilized next steps to prepare for their Fishbowl report out
- the full group briefly shared their Caucus experiences
- set expectations and suggested preparations for the next session on April 3

At our third session on April 3, we:
- provided a brief review of Session 2
- introduced the Fishbowl structure and format
- Liberal Caucus shared their Values, Vision, and Paths
- Moderate/Conservative listeners participated in Liberal Q and A using our principles
- Moderate/Conservative Caucus shared their Values, Vision, and Paths
- Liberal listeners participated in Moderate/Conservative Q and A using our principles
- the full group briefly shared their Fishbowl experiences
- set expectations and suggested preparations for the next session on April 10

Session 4 Summary
At our fourth session on April 10, we:
- provided a brief review of Session 3
- introduced the Small Groups engagements
- briefly reviewed the Building Bridges Foundation principles
- broke out into six Small Groups with 2-3 persons each (90% of time) where each participant shared and discussed their values, vision, and proposed action paths, identified common ground, and planned for their May 1 presentations
- briefly shared process learnings (with the full group)
- set expectations and suggested preparations for the next (last) session on May 1

Session 5 Summary
At our fifth and last session, we:
- Each of the six 2 or 3 person teams reported out (15 minutes each) their results from session 4:
- commonly held values and beliefs informing them on our topic (including the experiences and influencers)
- shared vision of the solution (5 years out)
- the agreed main paths and actions to take to realize that future
- the pros and cons of each action
- suggest any areas of disagreement worthy of further exploration
- share your reflections on the process
- We reviewed our core principles
- We discussed our attainment of our four Building Bridges Group objectives:
- Enrich (depth and breadth) our understanding of the selected issue – both your view and others’ views
- Identify and build common ground on our selective divisive issue
- Learn ways to disagree without being disagreeable
- Develop skills to become a uniting and depolarizing presence in your daily life
- We discussed possible next steps, after the close this Building Bridges Cohort
- Use learnings in your circles of influence
- Join with others and continue on this or a new topic
- Participate in the next Building Bridges Cohort in September (and/or encourage your friends and neighbor to do so
- Take a next step on the Information Policy and Law topic
- Everyone is encouraged to take their topic learnings and understandings from their experience and translate them into personal political action as they please
- This was illustrated by Anatol Zukerman, who shared his draft petition to Honorable Senator Elizabeth Warren on amending the first amendment as it relates to Free Speech
